I know, I know – everyone loves Autumn it seems and I’m one of them. But why? A while ago I was gifted a book called Hygge which is the Danish ethos of comfort and cosiness. It couldn’t have resonated with me more. Candles, thick socks, hot chocolates, books and blankets – pure bliss!
For me, the cosier days are symbolic of a slower pace of life and that suits me so well, haha! Slow living is a phrase I came across recently whilst chatting with a friend and I absolutely love it! It’s something I am going to strive to embrace all year round. I for one often get caught up in being busy – not actually getting things done, but I get busy being busy – and it doesn’t feel that good to be fair!
Another friend I saw recently is someone who has got the balance just right in her life. She is busy but totally on purpose! By that I mean she books things in when she knows she has time – anything above and beyond that she keeps as her own. How amazing is that? Maybe you are reading this thinking ‘yeah, isn’t that what you do Sam?’
No. No it isn’t…..
I say yes to lots of things without checking if I have the time or energy to do it. I say yes when my whole being is screaming no. And I’m publicly declaring here that I will stop doing this! You saw it here first!
So going forwards I will start being far more considered and making time for a little more hygge in my life. Time for snuggling up with blankets and a good book – recommendations welcome by the way (I’m a thriller, murder mystery, moral dilemma kinda gal). Making time for diffuser blends misting away, creating the sort of atmosphere that is conducive to relaxing and living slowly. And in doing so, I will have energy and headspace for time I want to be busy.
If anyone would like to know my blend of choice for these sorts of cosy days, it’s this beauty! Meet Mother Earth. She is woody, mossy and a real forest bathing experience. In a diffuser she is just perfect, and I will then take her with me rolled onto my pulse points wherever I go (which means to a different sofa quite possibly!)
December will bring the next instalment of the Glow with the Flow series – a huge blog with many different contributors and this quarters theme is Kindness. Be sure to be signed up to receive my emails if you would like your copy delivered straight to your inbox!
Until then I’ll send love, light and a whole heap of hygge your way.
