Thanks to you all for your lovely reaction to my first blog – it feels quite vulnerable to put something out there so thank you for being kind. I may no longer feel the need to hide behind oranges! Haha!
So this month I will tell you where it all started. The foundation of my journey, even if I didn’t know it at the time.
I had the happiest of childhoods despite being poorly a lot of the time. We are a really close family, although we don’t live that close geographically any more, and my family are very important to me. (yes Dave, even you!)
I had a lot of ear, nose and throat problems when I was little and spent most of the first 8 years of my life on antibiotics, until my tonsils were removed. Mythbuster – I didn’t get ice cream afterwards as I thought I would, I got given crisps to eat! Harsh, no?
As a result of the multiple courses of antibiotics, we believe, my immune system was wiped out and I got quite ill in my early teens. I was very fatigued, always under the weather with absolutely zero energy. I don’t have many memories of that time but I can’t imagine it was very nice for any of us to be honest. As a parent now, I can’t imagine seeing your child go through something like that. My beloved Dad found a way out for me through Homeopathy, where I got a diagnosis of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E). I do have memories of my lovely Mom taking me on coach trips to London to see my doctor in Harley Street – having said that, the memories I have are mostly about eating our packed lunch before the coach even pulled away! I guess it was a couple of years before I felt properly well again – I’m not really sure of anything around that time! I definitely missed out on a lot of the social aspects of teenage life, high school and college – my friends were either my older brothers fabulous crew or adults. But it was my life and I was feeling better so all was good!
I have since always been interested in a more natural way of feeling well and caring for ourselves. Fast forward many years and here I am, living near the seaside and in the countryside surrounded by fields. I have my own family now and they are my world.
I fell into working in schools when my boys were little and stayed there for most of my working life up to this point. I loved it as I love being around people – I find that the overwhelming majority of people are kind and generous and I love talking and getting to know them. One day at school I met a supply teacher who was the first person I had come across who used essential oils daily. Of course I had heard of them before but never really explored them. Being a fan of all things natural I was intrigued! He carried them with him everywhere, he even had a diffuser in the classroom (which very soon made it’s way into my office!)
So I was hooked! I love the way that sweet orange could energise me, peppermint could ping me awake, that lavender could calm my emotions. I purchased some oils and started experimenting, firstly with individual oils and then by blending them together. I was already doing yoga quite regularly and these two gentle worlds seemed, to me, to fit together so perfectly.
I started to research which oils would be good for grounding, for clarity, for focus – all the things I was trying to achieve on the yoga mat. Very soon, my very first chakra set was created – seven blends to use throughout my practice.
This set has evolved over the years and I have made other blends to meet emotional needs I had, as well as thinking of my ideal customer and what they may need.
Doing this as a small business through a global pandemic has made me realise that self care, nature and looking after ourselves is paramount to wellbeing, both physical and mental. It has become more important than ever and I want to make sure I practice this regularly, as well as making it easy for others to do it too.
So there it is, a brief little journey through my life and I hope it explains a little about how I came to be me and how I came into this way of life and living.
Can’t wait to chat some more again soon!
Love and light,
